Anirudh tries to add some punch to the scenes with his score, but by the time we get to the end, with writing that is only leaner and never meaner or stronger, even that doesn’t work. The director seems to have banked entirely on his star to carry the film, but with a script that hardly offers him anything to work with, even Vijay can only do so much with his star power.

Let's get it straight. Beast's story isn't anything new, so everything lies in the treatment of the screenplay. Nelson Dilipkumar has catered to Vijay's fans by including several applause-worthy moments, which will make fans jump with joy. Veera Raghavan is one of the neatly-fleshed out characters in the world of Beast. He is unapologetic and is willing to go to any extent to complete his mission. He stands up to his superiors and doesn't care about the consequences. Vijay is charming and fun in Nelson's Beast. The dead-pan humor worked out well in so many places.

His trademark dark comedy is seen in so many places and even family audiences could enjoy it. When was the last time we saw a RAW agent (Selvaraghavan playing Altaf Hussain) ask terrorists to hijack a cricket stadium instead of a mall because 200 people are too low a number to release their leader! That too in a film that has Vijay... we've got to appreciate Nelson's guts.
